San Antonio, TX

The clouds parted and the sun was shining Saturday morning as the police escort started our fun run/walk around 930am. We had approximately 120 people for our event and exceeded our monetary goal. We had a lot of families/friends from the local area and many who flew in for the event from NC, VA, and GA. The BEST thing about the event was the comraderie amongst the people and the willingness to share their stories. I was able to put people in touch with others to discuss impending surgeries and post-op issues. Kids talked to other kids and adults were able to talk, one mommy to another, about what to expect for impending surgeries. One post-op patient made a display and openly talked about her surgery and healing process. Another patient was only 3-weeks post-op but wasn't going to let "a little surgery" keep her from the event. My inspiration, my son, Aaron, openingly talked to other kids about his symptoms and experiences. It was an extremely emotional morning for us all!

People, including the Mayor and City Manager, are already talking about next year's event. It will be even bigger and better than this year's!!!!
