The day before my decompression surgery, my husband and I went to visit my mom and dad in a completely different hospital.  My Dad was coming out of ICU while undergoing cancer treatment.  Oddly as it seems, I wasn't too concerned about my upcoming surgery, although I had been adequately prepared and heard all the risks factors, even saw the video, I was wondering how to spring the news on my parents that I would be finding someone to stay with our 4 girls, while I would be entering the hospital and having surgery on my head.

"Well, it seems as though I was born with a brain too big for my skull,"  I began to explain, "And so the area is quite narrow and causing some pressure on the base of my brain", I continued.  "They'll just take out some of the skull bone to allow more room for my brain."

"So what you're saying" my Dad replied, "Is that you are narrow minded."

"Yes", I said, "But soon I will be open minded."

Daddy quickly picked up the slack with, "But, then you're gonna be closed minded again."

"Yes, Daddy, but with the help of a cadaver membrane, I will quite possibly be double minded."
